Argentina's Rural Land Law was targeted for repeal—but the official registry says the law is currently operative

The National Rural Land Registry currently states that Ley 26.737 was repealed by DNU 70/2023 but restored by a precautionary measure that remains in force. A foreign buyer should therefore verify the live RNTR and court position before relying on a repeal narrative.

Argentina extended the RIGI application window—but ordinary property purchases do not become RIGI projects

Decree 105/2026 extended the RIGI application period by one year from July 8, 2026 and made operational adjustments. The regime remains designed for qualifying large investment projects, not a standalone house, apartment or land purchase.

Argentina created an investment-based citizenship procedure—but a property purchase is not yet a verified public route

Decree 524/2025 created a procedure under which a foreign national may seek citizenship based on a relevant investment assessed by the designated agency and reviewed by public authorities. The decree leaves the definition of relevant investment to the Ministry of Economy; no verified public real-estate threshold was found in this review.

Method

How to read the tracker

This tracker summarizes official public sources and is not legal, tax, migration, corporate or investment advice.

Status before headline

Effective, suspended and implementation pending describe different legal states. The visible status outranks the marketing narrative.

Jurisdiction stays explicit

An IGJ resolution does not become a rule for every provincial registry. Each note names the authority and boundary.

Not a file clearance

The tracker orients research. It does not clear a buyer, entity, parcel, title, bank, tax position or permit.

FAQ

Frequently asked regulatory questions

Is Argentina's Rural Land Law currently repealed?

The official Rural Land Registry says DNU 70/2023 repealed the law but a precautionary measure restored it and remains in force. The current injunction context must be checked before a rural transaction.

Does RIGI apply to an ordinary property purchase?

No, not by itself. RIGI is a regime for qualifying large investment projects subject to sector, vehicle, minimum-investment and implementation rules.

Can a foreign investor obtain Argentine citizenship by buying a property?

The official framework refers to a relevant investment, but the reviewed official sources do not establish that any property purchase or a public fixed real-estate threshold qualifies.

Do IGJ foreign-company rules apply throughout Argentina?

No. IGJ Resolution 4/2026 governs the registry framework in the IGJ's jurisdiction. Provincial registries and other authorities can have separate requirements.

How often is the FrontierArg Regulatory Change Tracker checked?

The public tracker has a weekly review target and displays its latest checked date. High-risk detail pages remain outside search indexing until qualified professional review is recorded.
